How to Work as a Model in the USA From Overseas: Visas, Travel and Pay (2026 Guide)
Want to work as a model in the USA but live overseas? This guide explains what it takes: the right work visa, how travel for a booking works, what you get paid, and how to apply to Tone Talent Agency from any country.
Tone Talent Agency represents models 18 and over for U.S. companies and brands. We welcome international talent from Japan, Ukraine, Italy, Germany and everywhere else, and for confirmed bookings we are open to flying models into the U.S. to work.
Step 1: Build a portfolio that works for the USA
U.S. clients book from photos. Before you apply, put together 8 to 10 professional photos:
- 2 to 3 clean headshots in natural light, minimal makeup
- 2 to 3 full-length shots that show your true proportions
- 3 to 4 frames from real shoots, campaigns or runway shows
Keep the photos recent and unfiltered. Heavy retouching works against you, because the client expects the same person to arrive on set.
Step 2: Understand work visas for a model in the USA
This is the most important step. A tourist visa or ESTA visa waiver does not allow paid modeling work in the United States, even for a single day. The U.S. State Department explains what visitor visas do and do not permit. To be paid as a model in the USA, most international talent needs a work visa, typically one of these:
O-1B visa
The O-1B is for people with extraordinary ability in the arts, and it is the most common route for working models. Evidence usually includes published editorials, campaigns for recognized brands, press coverage and letters from industry professionals. It requires a U.S. petitioner, such as an employer or agent.
H-1B for fashion models
The H-1B program includes a category for fashion models of distinguished merit and ability. It is less common for models because of annual limits, timing and cost.

Step 3: Travel to the U.S. for a booking
Once a client confirms a booking and your work authorization is in place, we coordinate the trip with you and the client: shoot dates, flights, where you stay, call times and what to bring. You will always know who the client is, what the job is, and what you will be paid before you travel.
A safe agency never asks you to pay to travel, to be photographed, or to be represented. If someone asks you to send money for a ticket or a "visa fee" in exchange for a modeling job, treat it as a scam.
Step 4: Know what a model in the USA gets paid
At Tone Talent Agency, talent is paid $100 per hour. Our 20% agency commission is billed to the client on top of your rate, so you keep the full $100 per hour. Example: a 4-hour booking pays you $400, and the client is invoiced $480.
There are no fees to join, and we are paid only when you work.
Step 5: Apply to Tone Talent Agency
- Open the talent application.
- Enter your details, your country, and your Instagram.
- Choose whether you can already work in the U.S. or would need a work visa.
- Paste a download link to 8 to 10 professional photos, or attach them to the form.
- Submit. We reply to every application, usually within two weeks.
